First showcased at the 2016 edition of IWA in Nuremberg, Germany, and just recently added to its manufacturing company's official catalogues, the ARS-12 Typhoon semi-automatic shotgun is the latest addition to the UZKON Arms product line, already popular between European and north American shooters.
Uzkon is a manufacturer headquartered in the Turkish town of Selçuklu, and is known to European and American shooters for its extensive pump-action shotguns line − a top seller in the last years − as well as for a series of modern sporting, hunting and defensive autoloading shotguns such as the BR-99 Barak.
Cosmetically reminiscent to some of the latest generation assault rifles − more specifically to the Beretta ARX-160 − the Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon semi-automatic shotgun is built around a 7075 lightweight aluminum alloy receiver and a 47cm./18.5" chromed 4140 stainless steel barrel; the bolt group is precision-manufactured out of AISI 8620 steel alloy.
The Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon semi-automatic shotgun feeds through proprietary metal detachable magazines, holding five or ten 12-gauge shotshells, which are not compatible with other Uzkon shotguns; the chamber of the ARS-12 can feed 70mm/2.¾" standard or 76mm/3" Magnum shells.
The Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon autoloader is a gas-operated design, featyuring an easy-to-operate adjustment valve just in front of the forend to guarantee reliable operation with all available loads; the system is advertised as self-cleaning. The bolt sports a three-locking lugs rotating head.
The outer chassis of the Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon is entirely manufactured of dark grey high-impact polymer, and among its features are a side-folding stock with a six-positions extendable buttpiece, an ambidextrous safety switch, a magazine release catch located under the trigger guard, and a cocking handle and hold-open release lever both located on the right side.
The polymer chassis of the Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon semi-automatic shotgun sports twelve cuts on each side of the front portion of the handguard and four cuts on each side of the rear portion of the frame, providing forced ventilation to both the barrel and the bolt group and enhancing the ARS-12's rapid-fire capabilities.
The Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon shotgun is built on a two-receivers system, allowing quick field-strip without tools. The ARS-12 comes factory-issued with adjustable flip-up polymer sights mounted on a full-length top MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail; another rail is located under the forend, and hosts a removable polymer handguard; two more are located at the two sides of the handguard itself, making the Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon semi-automatic shotgun fully compatible with optical gunsights and tactical accessories.
Given its plethora of features, the Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon sounds apt to a wide array of uses: hunting; personal, home and property protection, as well as service issue for private security personnel; service, tactical and combat use by military and law enforcement units; leisure shooting and IPSC or 3-Gun competition; and much more.
As of today, international distribution of the Uzkon ARS-12 Typhoon semi-automatic shotgun has yet to kick off. Thus, there is no indication so far concerning availability and pricing.
