In this case we are talking about sporting, a discipline practiced by both professionals and passionate shooters and hunters who prefer the dynamism and variability of the trajectories of the clay pigeons. It is a hot summer's day that sees us busy at the F.A.I.R. shooting lane and we have the opportunity to use the Fossari CRX9 BSS over-and-under in a sporting course. We would like to remind you, even if it is already well known, that Fossari is an over-and-under brand that was born from the will of the historical F.A.I.R. company, leader in the manufacturing of over-and-under shotguns, to make high level premium shotguns that can meet the market requirements not only of enthusiasts but also of professionals. Equipped with a solid steel receiver with increased thicknesses and a Cerakote external finish, the CRX9 BSS over-and-under is, like the rest of the range, a rugged gun with a well-balanced weight, a gun that immediately conveys reliability in follow-up shots.
Fossari CRX9 BSS over-and-under shotgun - the technical specifications
Starting with the stock, in the Fossari CRX9 BSS over-and-under we find a classic Montecarlo type made from oil-finished select walnut wood and a double-vented rubber recoil pad. The adjustable XR-Stock comb allows the shooter to find the right alignment with the rib for faster target acquisition and better support. The stock pistol grip is ergonomically designed and allows for a firm and stable grip when aiming. The barrels available in lengths of 76 and 81 cm are made with the X-Cones forcing cones and X-Bores drilling, with elongated forcing cones for better performance with faster and more compact shot patterns on the target, but also lower felt recoil on the shooter's shoulder. Trigger is single selective trigger and the locks, as in the entire Fossari range, are removable by means of a simple release button to allow the shooter a quick and constant check and maintenance of the mechanics, directly in the field without the use of tools.
Another important detail for the gun's longer life and consitently effective ballistic performance is the possibility of tightening the forend iron by means of inserts and a key supplied with the shotgun, which over time allows adjustment and thus avoids any excess tolerances caused by continuous and prolonged shooting stress. The efficiency, accuracy and safety levels of the over-and-under are therefore guaranteed over time even with professional use of the gun. The overall weight of the over-and-under is approximately 3.9 kg, within the standard range for sporting guns that must guarantee stability and accuracy, with a weight distribution, as mentioned above, that is very well balanced to facilitate swinging without fatiguing the shooter during shooting sessions, which in sporting are very dynamic. The semi-flat 12 mm rib allows for a fast and precise aiming, also thanks to the upper checkering and the central aiming line that guides the shooter's eye to the dot front sight. The cartridge case ejectors are naturally automatic and selective, with a very positive ejection. A set of interchangeable 90 mm Tecnichocke HPS internal chokes completes the set of accessories for the CRX9 over-and-under, which is delivered inside an elegant PVC and velvet case complete with assembly key and chokes.
Our range test of the Fossari CRX9 with "National" shotshells from Baschieri & Pellagri
In our test, we used the 28-gram load with 2.41 mm shotshells (shot size no. 7 ½) from B&P and achieved clean hits both with the fast instinctive shots at close range and those at extremely distant clay targets. But back to our test results of Fossari CRX9: Very appreciable is the trigger, which in the Fossari can be adjusted and adapts naturally to the habits of the shooter who will remain focused on the target at the moment of firing, letting the shot go off smoothly at the most suitable moment. We were not the only ones shooting with a Fossari over-and-under at the range, and other shooters also confirmed their satisfaction with the choice for the same reasons and characteristics that we hope emerge clearly from the images in our video. It is worth remembering that for the sporting discipline, the range of CRX9 over-and-under shotguns, in addition to the BSS version that was the subject of our test, also includes the entry level Sporting version with 71 and 76 cm barrels and the top of the range BSR model with adjustable carbon fiber rib, trigger pull weight and XR-Stock.
