With its all new SAINT Edge ATC, Springfield Armory takes a departure from the classic “Black Rifle” lines entering a new world. Overall, appearance is much more modern, with a streamlined, intriguing “space gun” look.
But it's not all about aesthetics. First of all, ATC stand for “Accurized Tactical Chassis” – that's what the new rifle is built around, a patented chassis machined from 6061 T6 aluminum and specifically designed to deliver maximum precision in the AR platform, with a monolithic lower/handguard system and a 100% free-floated barrel.
Barrel nut and gas system are in also totally free from any contact with the lower chassis. Using two conical set screws to eliminate any play between the upper and lower receiver, the Accu-Tite Plus tension system further contributes to accuracy. To the point that Springfield Armory actually guarantees sub-moa accuracy for all its SAINT Edge ATC rifles – a three-shot group at 100 yards with quality match-grade factory ammunition.
Moreover, the the SAINT Edge ATC is chambered in .223 Wylde, which means that it is safely capable of firing both .223 and 5.56 NATO cartridges, for maximum performance and flexibility.
The bolt carrier group has been shot peened and MPI tested for reliability. The 18” Ballistic Advantage barrel sports a muzzle brake to reduce felt recoil.
The steep angle, extended tang and palm-filling design of the B5 Systems pistol grip provides good ergonomics and comfort.
Two SAINT Edge ATC versions are offered: a standard black one and an Elite Coyote Brown version. Let's see them in more detail.
