Wilson Combat EDC X9 3.25”, a top-grade subcompact in 9mm

Wilson Combat's EDC X9 9mm defensive handgun series now includes a subcompact option, the EDC X9 3.25”. Below, is the list of its extensive premium features.

The image shows how compact the EDC X9 3.25” actually is. Note the Tri-Top slide profile and 1911-style controls.

Barrel: the 3.25” barrel length is more and more popular in defensive handguns, allowing for great concealability and still guaranteeing good accuracy. According to the manufacturer, in the subcompact EDC X9 it offers “the same match-grade accuracy potential as the larger EDC X9 handguns and is painstakingly tuned by our gunsmiths for flawless reliability with a wide variety of target and defensive ammunition”. Barrel and chamber are both fluted.

Slide: the stainless steel slide DLC (Diamond-like-Carbon) physical vapor deposition finish is available with chromium and tungsten underlayers for long-lasting corrosion and abrasion resistance, and has a Tri-Top profile. Extractor is external.

The 3.25”  hand-fitted match-grade barrel has a tapered cone external profile with flush cut reverse crown.

Frame: the EDC X9 3.25” is built on a T6-7075 aluminum X-frame with a grip that is smaller in circumference than a standard single-stack 1911. Designed by Bill Wilson and Wilson Combat engineers, the screwless X-frame design uses hammer spring tension to keep the aggressive traction Wilson/VZ G-10 starburst pattern grips in place. Which also means that the gun can be fully disassembled with a single punch, since there are no screws at all. On the front and back straps the Wilson Combat X-Tac tread pattern also provides a safe and comfortable grip, while the ergonomic design in conjunction with an enlarged trigger guard window and your choice of radiused trigger pad length fits all hand sizes comfortably, improving recoil control.

Sights include a replaceable red fiber optic front sight and a Tactical Concealment Battlesight.

Magazines: the EDC X9 can use 15- and even 18-round (with optional magwell) double-column magazines that were developed jointly with the renowned magazine manufacturer Mec-Gar.

Controls: controls are the familiar 1911 ones, including a classic and extended Bullet Proof thumb safety. Magazine release is also from Bullet Proof.

Red fiber optic front sight is replaceable (you just have to unscrew a 4.40 Hex Head Cap screw), and on the rear top of slide we find a Tactical Concealment Battlesight.

Wilson Combat guarantees an accuracy of 1.5” at 25 yards. As a further bonus, the EDC X9 3.25” will fit the majority of holsters on the market designed for subcompact 1911 pistols and is offered with or without an accessory rail.
