Taurus revives the 650 revolver model in .357

Originally introduced as part of the CIA (Carry It Anywhere) revolver series in 2001 – almost a quarter of a century ago! – the Taurus 650 is back: a small-frame, snub-nose, shrouded hammer, 5-shot revolver chambered in .357 Magnum.

The Taurus 650 is available in both matte black alloy steel and stainless steel versions. Trigger is double action only.

Specially designed for concealment and reliability, with the revived 650 model Taurus is answering the call for a compact, snag-free defensive option for concealed carry also featuring a double Action Only (DAO) trigger pull.

The “new” Taurus 650 is offered with 2” or 3” barrel lengths, and in matte black or stainless steel finish options, with steel alloy or stainless steel construction respectively.

The snug-free rear sight of the Taurus 650
The snug-free rear sight of the Taurus 650 consists in a slot on the top of the frame, while the front sight has a removable serrated blade.

Being chambered in .357 Magnum, the Taurus 650 obviously also accepts .38 Special and .38 Special +P rounds, for more flexibility in ammunition choices. And thanks to the internal shrouded hammer, Taurus does not fail to remind us the old publicity claim that such revolvers can be fired from a pocket without fouling or jamming the action – although how useful this option is in real life is actually debatable. In any case, the sleek design minimizes the revolver’s profile, reducing the risk of printing when carried concealed.

The Taurus 650 is also available with a 3” barrel
The Taurus 650 is also available with a 3” barrel, in both the black and stainless steel versions.

As a plus, the Taurus 650's 5-shot cylinder is compatible with a variety of existing 5-shot speed loaders and holsters for similar .357 Magnum revolvers, such as the 605 model from the same manufacturer.

The rear sight consists in a slot on the top of the frame, while the front sight has a removable serrated blade. Safety is the classic safety bar. Grips are black rubber.

Prices in the USA are as follows: $454.99 for the matte black alloy steel version, and $469.99 for the stainless steel one, irrespective of barrel length (2” or 3”).
