Springfield Armory releases not just one or two, but six new .45 ACP models in the TRP 1911 series. The latest additions are made up of two Classic models (with 5” or 4.25” barrel), two Rail models (both with 5” barrels but offered in Black or Coyote Brown finishes) and two Carry Contour models (both with 4.25” barrels, but available in Black or Coyote Brown). The Classic and Rail models are all-steel pistols and come with two-piece magwells, while the Carry Contour, or CC, models sport a bobbed, lightweight aluminum frame for ease of concealment and – for the same reason – do not feature extended magwells.

Springfield Armory TRP, hand-fitted guns
Springfield Armory's Tactical Response Pistol (that's what TRP stands for) draw inspiration from the Springfield Armory Professional 1911 utilized by the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team and undergo meticulous hand fitting for both form and function, as the manufacturer proudly points out. This places the TRP pistols in the semi-custom category, which is also reflected in the prices, starting at $1,899 for the two Classic models, up to $1,999 for The Rail and CC variants. Are they worth the price? Let's have a look in more detail.
For enhanced precision, each pair of the TRP pistols is hand-selected for slide-to-frame fit and numbered to marry them with their matching components throughout the build process. All TRP pistols also feature Cerakote finishes, ambidextrous thumb safety, skeletonized hammer, forward serrations, and the streamlined and skeletonized Gen 2 Speed Trigger for improved performance. Barrels are match-grade.
The frontstrap checkering, cut directly into both the forged frame and mainspring housing, is 20 lines per inch (LPI): a time-intensive process typically reserved for custom firearms, as the manufacturer duly points out. Moreover, all TRP pistols feature finely cut sighting plane serrations along the top of the slide, to offer the shooter an enhanced sight picture and maximum light diffusion. TRP pistols are outfitted with tritium three-dot sights – the rear sight is also serrated for reduced glare and fast target acquisition. Speaking of grips, the TRP models mount combat-ready Hydra VZ series G-10 grips with deep relief channels for an aggressive purchase material.
TRP pistols are all chambered in .45 ACP only. Magazine capacity is 8 rounds (7 for the Carry Contour models). Each gun comes with 3 magazines.
