Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C, the new compact 4-inch version

As could be expected, after introducing the (almost) full-size Echelon 9mm pistol in 2023 featuring a 4.5” barrel, Springfield Armory is now adding the new Echelon 4.0C model. Specifically engineered for carry, the Echelon 4.0C retains the same key features of the 4.5” barrel model, but with a shorter 4-inch barrel and compact frame for enhanced concealability. The latest compact iteration of the Echelon handgun is also offered in a version with a 4.28" threaded barrel for the attachment of suppressors and compensators.

To summarize the common features of the Echelon family, these are 9mm polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols that are actually made by the renowned manufacturer HS Produkt in Croatia, with which Springfield Armory has been working for some years now.

Self-illuminating tritium inserts are housed within the 3-dot sight system on the Echelon for enhanced day and night visibility. The Echelon is also available with tritium Rack U-Dot irons. All Echelon models are optics-ready.

The modular and highly adaptable handguns are designed around a robust stainless steel chassis and a revolutionary optics mounting system. Of particular interest, the Echelon's fire control unit: the "Central Operating Group" (COG), as Springfield Armory calls it, is a self-contained module that contains all the important components and the integral slide guide rails. All major components are made of tool steel and are highly polished to ensure a clean trigger travel, a precise release point and a short and positive reset. As an additional safety feature, the COG has a unique design with a trigger bar to prevent unintentional firing.

The Echelon's modular grip, featuring a slightly flared magazine well for faster magazine changes, comes with three interchangeable backstraps (Small, Medium and Large) to allow customisation to the shooter's hand. The armorers tool for changing the grip is integrated directly into the backstraps.

The Variable Interface System provides unmatched direct-mount compatibility with today's leading red dot sights. The Echelon pistol also come with tritium Rack U-Dot irons or with self-illuminating tritium inserts housed within a 3-dot sight system for enhanced day and night visibility.

Prices in the US for the new Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C range from $679 (standard version) to $739 (version with threaded barrel and 3-dot tritium sights). This includes two magazines (flush 15-round and extended 18-round) and a double-zipper case with soft-sided shell that ensures the firearm and mounted accessories are protected during transportation – an interior pouch can hold an additional magazine.
