Smith & Wesson M&P FPC, a new folding pistol caliber carbine

A compact, side-folding 9mm carbine with M&P pistol controls and M&P magazine compatibility: Smith & Wesson hits the flourishing market of pistol caliber carbines with its new M&P FPC. 

Thanks to an easy-to-use side folding mechanism, the 9mm M&P FPC has a 16.25”/413 mm long barrel but folds from 30.4" to 16 3/8" (772 mm to 416 mm) – quite compact for carry, cleaning, and storage. The charging slide/handle also doubles as retainer when folded. System is a simple and reliable blowback. 

As a plus, they stress at S&W, since the horizontal folding design with locking latch doesn’t interfere with top-mounted optics, you're able to mount any optic without losing zero. The carbine is in fact optics-ready and comes with no iron sights. The video below shows its features in full.

The list of strengths does not stop here, anyway. The Smith & Wesson M&P FPC brings superior ergonomics with interchangeable palmswells, M2.0 stippling, and a light and crisp flat-face trigger. 

It can also carry two additional M&P magazines in the stock – the carbine is compatible with M&P full-size and compact pistol double-stack magazines. (The in-stock magazine storage uses a quick-release tab system.)

The barrel has a 1/2x28 threaded muzzle with thread protector for the mounting of muzzle devices or suppressor. Other features include:

• Integrated recoil buffer system.
• Aluminum frame.
• Reversible magazine catch.
• M-LOK slots on handguard with Picatinny-style rail on top.

MSRP in the USA of $659. The price includes a carrying bag with additional storage and Velcro straps, one 17-round magazine and two 23-round magazines.
