New SIG Sauer 1911-XSeries pistols, innovating a classic

In the world of guns, few things can be considered as classic as the venerable 1911 pistol. Few gun manufacturers, on the other hand, are as popular and well-known worldwide as SIG Sauer

The SIG Sauer 1911 XSeries features an optics-ready XSeries Stainless Steel Slide with “Compact” optic cut footprint.

That's the reason why the introduction by SIG Sauer of the new 1911-XSeries that blends “the beloved features of the 1911 that made the platform iconic with the modern necessities the enthusiast desires” can only be accepted with some delight. In detail, the SIG Sauer 1911 XSeries are stainless steel framed, hammer-fired pistols in .45 ACP that feature an optics-ready XSeries Stainless Steel Slide with “Compact” optic cut footprint for ultra-low-profile direct-mount red dot capability.

Other “modern necessities” include X-RAY3 Day/Night sights, a serrated flat trigger, custom engraved and checkered G10 grips from LOK Grips, skeletonized hammer, removable magwell, extended slide release and ambidextrous safety levers. As for sizes, SIG's 1911 pistols are available in the 1911-XFULL and more compact 1911-XCARRY variants in either black Nitron or coyote tan PVD finishes, all of which offer the option of a factory installed ROMEO-X Compact red dot optic.

The SIG Sauer 1911 XSeries pistols are also available in coyote tan. Here, the 1911-XFULL variant.

The SIG Sauer 1911-XFULL features a 5”/127 mm barrel (sight radius: 165 mm) and an overall length of 221 mm, with and height of 142 mm. The 1911-XCARRY has a 4.2”/106 mm barrel (sight radius: 146 mm) and is 203 mm long and 140 mm high. Both variants use steel magazines with a capacity of 8 rounds in .45 ACP caliber. Among the other shared features, the adjustable trigger with undercut trigger guard and the serrated checkered front strap.

X-RAY3 Day/Night sights, a serrated flat trigger, custom engraved and checkered G10 grips, skeletonized hammer, removable magwell, extended slide release and ambidextrous safety levers are some of the features of the SIG Sauer 1911 XSeries.

The highlight, however, is the ROMEO-X Compact red-dot sight from SIG Sauer Electro-Optics that you can have factory installed on your 1911-XSeries. We already introduced it here on all4shooters some months ago, but here are some details: inspired by the mil-spec ROMEO-M17 to deliver “military grade performance, reliability, and durability for civilian everyday carry,” the ROMEO-X red-dot is crafted from 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum featuring machined anti-reflection grooves on shooter-facing surfaces with distortion-free aspheric glass. Its high-efficiency red LED emits a 2 MOA dot / 32 MOA circle reticle, and you can choose between 15 brightness settings including night vision settings. The CR1632 battery compartment with a threaded battery cap is side-mounted, so the optic does not need to be removed from the pistol for battery changes. MOTAC (Motion Activated Illumination), MAGNETAC (Magnetic Activation), and D.A.R.C (Dark Adaptive Reticles & Coatings) technologies are all on board.

Each SIG Sauer 1911 XSeries pistol ships with two 8-round magazines. In the U.S. the 1911-XFULL is already shipping to dealers, while XCARRY models are expected to start shipping summer 2024. Price for the 1911-XFULL pistol with black finish is $1561.99 (which rises to $1799.99 if you want it with a factory-installed ROMEO-X red-dot) and $1,665 for the coyote tan version. Price for the XCARRY has not been communicated yet.
