The Rapide Dawn and Rapide Scorpius are the latest additions to Kimber's line of Rapide 1911-style pistols, which already includes the compact Officer's size Micro 9 models in 9mm.
Also offered in 9mm caliber only, the new pistols are full-size 1911s built on stainless-steel frames.
They feature the same stainless-steel slides with front and rear stepped cocking serrations plus slide lightening cuts for faster slide lock-up. On the frame, Kimber’s Stiplex textured front strap allows a better grip surface area, as well as the G-10 grips.
The two new models also have in common a 5”/127 mm stainless-steel, match-grade barrel with a 1:16 left-hand twist. Recoil spring is a 12-lb type. The V-cut aluminum trigger has a factory setting of 4.0-5.0 lb approx.
Kimber Rapide Down and Scorpius, same mechanics, different aesthetics
Now the differences between the Rapide Dawn and Scorpius models: the Rapide Dawn pistols feature a frame and slide finished in Silver KimPro II with brush-polished flats and a Gold TiN finished barrel. The G-10 grips are gray/black. On the other hand, the Rapide Scorpius pistol's frame and slide are finished in Black KimPro II with brush-polished flats. A matching black DLC finished barrel and black G-10 grips round off the fine aesthetics.
The two new Rapide models are factory fitted with Tru-Glo TFX Pro Day/Night sights feturing Kimber’s signature orange front ring.
Despite their full size, the magazines of the Rapide Dawn and Rapide Scorpius 1911s are not hi-caps and hold just 9 rounds in 9mm caliber.
Price for the Rapide Dawn and Rapide Scorpius 1911 models is $1,729.
