After almost 30 years since it was introduced – the first models hit the market in 1989 - the Ruger SP101 wheelgun family is still expanding. The Company has now added a 9mm Luger (or 9 Para in European parlance) version of its popular revolver. This model is also available in .327 Federal Magnum, .357 Magnum, .38 Special and .22 LR.
The new 9mm version of the Ruger SP101 features a cushioned rubber grip with black plastic insert and no exposed metal in the backstrap, making it extremely comfortable. Like all the other SP101 models, takedown of integrated subassemblies requires no special tools and allows for easy maintenance and assembly and the patented grip frame easily accommodates a variety of custom grips. Material, as usual for SP101s, is stainless steel with a satin finish.
Barrel length is 2.25" (57 mm) with a 1:16" twist. Overall length is 7.20" (182 mm) for a weight of 25 oz (708 gr).
As for safety, a patented transfer bar mechanism provides security against accidental discharge. The triple-locking cylinder, which has capacity of 5 rounds, is locked into the frame at the front, rear and bottom for more positive alignment and dependable operation. Front sight is a black ramp type, with an integral backsight.
The 9mm ships with full moon clips that act as both a speed loader for the 9mm rounds and aid in the ejection of the spent cartridges. Price is 719.00 USD (621 euro).
