CMMG introduces it as its "most compact AR-15 yet", claiming that it has taken portability to “a whole new level”: the Dissent is CMMG's new line of buffer-less AR-15 pistols.
The “most stowable Personal Defense Weapon that CMMG has built to date” utilizes the U.S. company’s patent-pending Compact Action, featuring a 6.5-inch free-floated barrel and complemented with a 5.5-inch M-LOK handguard. Overall length is 14.7” and weigh is 4.6 lb.
AR-15 modularity means that you can pair CMMG’s Dissent upper with any Mil-Spec compatible AR-15 lower when using the provided pic rail adapter. The upper is made from 7075-T6 aluminum. Calibers available are 5.56x45 mm, .300 BLK and 5.7x28 mm – it is interesting to note how the latter caliber is becoming increasingly popular in the U.S.A. after some 30 years of substantial neglect. The 5.56x45 mm, .300 BLK versions utilize a direct impingement gas-operated system, while the 5.7x28 mm version utilizes CMMG's Radial Delayed Blowback operating system.
The forward side charger is non reciprocating (a right hand charger is available separately), while the Picatinny rail end plate allows for the mounting of folding braces.
The Dissent sports a TriggerTech AR-D two-stage trigger, developed in collaboration with CMMG to be fully optimized for use with Dissent firearms and upper receiver groups. The manufactures assures a 4 lb pull weight with a light, repeatable break.
Six Cerakote finishes are offered: Armor Black, Charcoal Green, Coyote Tan, Midnight Bronze, Sniper Grey, Titanium. Price of the Dissent in the U.S. is $1,999.95 complete with two magazines – .300 BLK and 5.56 mm ship with their respective 30-round Magpul PMAGs while the 5.7x28mm ships with 32-round CMMG Gen II Conversion Magazines.

The Dissent, almost a manifesto
So far, we have described the gun. But the Dissent is not just that. You must in fact add the first words of the Constitution of the United States to the name, that should be read as “We The People Dissent”.
“The Dissent is more than just a product. It is a platform to voice our peaceful opposition to the censorship and infringements that affect law abiding gunowners across America,” they say at CMMG.
“The Dissent is peaceful opposition to big tech unjustly silencing 2A advocates across their platforms, erasing their 1st amendment rights and the idea of democracy in the process. The Dissent is peaceful opposition to the leaders that stand idly by as bureaucratic agencies continuously threaten to criminalize law-abiding firearms owners for exercising their constitutional rights.”
“Most importantly, The Dissent is a reminder that We the People need to come together and peacefully oppose the ongoing abuses of power.”
Gun owners and citizens in the EU might have to learn something from this, too.
