If, with a little imagination, you think of the map of France as a shooting target, then Châteauroux would be at about a "nine on the left": the Châteauroux-Déols National Shooting Centre (CNTS) is located about 250 km south of Paris. But don't worry: the CNTS can be reached by car via the A20 motorway or the departmental road 925, by train (the train station is about 15 minutes away by car) or even by plane, as Châteauroux airport is only 10 minutes away.
The Europeans seem to have an easier time travelling this time than at the last Games, which took place in Tokyo or Rio. But even within the EU, there are always problems with travelling with valuable sports equipment that has been declared as "dangerous" firearms. The German archers who were allowed to compete in Paris had a package of bows left at the airport. And the British also complained on Facebook that the rifle cases were not taken on the same plane.
2024 Olympics: what information do you need as a shooting sports fan?
Very important: the current schedule of the shooting events, which should also include last-minute changes.
As things stand today, the all4shooters.com team is planning to publish a summary of the day's news every day between July 27 and August 5. Of course, the timing also depends a little on the information from Châteauroux, but we are aiming for "daily at 6 pm".
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), which tends to operate behind the scenes of the IOC at the Olympics, has also completely revamped its website. This is particularly important for colleagues in the specialised press: the current record lists can be found here, as well as the athlete database, where you can easily look up all the previous performances of internationally active shooters.
Further information on the shooting disciplines can be found at the bottom of this article – we have compiled all the information in 14 episodes under "Road to Paris".
