2024 Olympic Games, Day 7: Vincent Hancock (USA) shows skeet perfection with his Beretta shotgun and could win his fourth Olympic gold tomorrow

Chiara Leone with her Walther KK500: the young Swiss shooter won the gold medal in the 50m rifle 3-position event at the 2024 Olympics in Châteauroux.

The 7th day of events began with the women's 50m rifle 3 position final. Switzerland had already won gold in Tokyo in 2021 with Nina Christen, and this time a Swiss woman was also at the top of the podium: Chiara Leone won gold ahead of Maddalena Sagen from the USA and Qiongyuie Zhang from China.

Austria was also represented in the final by Nadine Ungerank (who also competes in the German air rifle Bundesliga), who finished fifth behind Norway's Jeanette Duestad.

This concludes the Olympic rifle competitions in Châteauroux.

2024 Olympic Games: women's 25m pistol qualifications see Hungary's Veronika Major in the lead

Doreen Vennekamp
Germany's Doreen Vennekamp, at her third Olympic start in Châteauroux and the current world ranking leader, was unable to fight her way into the final.

In women's 25m pistol, the situation at the top after both this morning's "precision" and "rapid" qualification rounds  in view of tomorrow's final is as follows: Hungary's Veronika Major is in the lead with an Olympic record of 592 rings ahead of India's Manu Bhaker. However, Camille Jedrzejewski, a competitor from the host country France, is also in the final, which will be held tomorrow (3 August) from 9:30 a.m. No luck for shooting legend Nino Saloukvaze from Georgia at her tenth (!) Olympic Games: with 563 rings, the 55-year-old finished last in the preliminary competition – an incredible 36 years ago she won Olympic gold in the same pistol discipline in Seoul!

The results after the qualification with the final places for tomorrow.

2024 Olympic Games: Sven Korte competes for one of the six places in the skeet final

Sven Korte and his Perazzi shotgun: the 2024 European champion is the only German participant in the Olympic skeet competition.
The layout of a typical skeet stand could have been drawn by Michelangelo, but it is specified by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and will also be the same at the 2024 Olympics in Châteauroux.

Favourite Vincent Hancock (USA) leads with three 25 series and a perfect 75 ahead of his compatriot Conner Prince with 74 hits and three other shooters with 74 hits. Among them is Tammaro Cassandro (Italy), who has held the Olympic record with 124 hits since Tokyo 2021. Sven Korte is the only German starter in the men's Olympic skeet competition. The European champion started his first day of competition with a full 25 series, which was followed by a 23 and another 25. With 73 hits, Korte is in 6th place and would have secured a place in the final. Sven Korte may have the nerve to defend his place in the final round in the last two 25-shot series tomorrow (starting at 9 a.m.).

2024 Olympic Games: "Invincible minds. Unbreakable champions", already 5 Beretta medals at Paris 2024

Invincible minds. Unbreakable champions", already 5 Beretta medals at Paris 2024.
Invincible minds. Unbreakable champions". They are Nathan Hales and Silvana Maria Stanco, two of the five (out of six) medals won by Beretta in Paris 2024.

54.7% of the 112 Trap and Skeet shooters in Paris shot with a Beretta shotgun.  In Tokyo as many as 16 medals out of a total of 18 were won by athletes using Italian shotguns, while 11 out of 18 were won with Italian ammunition. In addition to Beretta, Perazzi was also very present and then some Zolis, Caesar Guerinis and... the German Krieghoffs.

Beretta began by winning the three medals in the men's Trap with England's Nathan Hales, China's Ying and Guatemalan Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas. The slogan "Invincible minds. Unbreakable champions" also fits perfectly with the top two in the women's Trap, Adriana Ruano Oliva and Silvana Stanco, both shooting with Beretta guns, while bronze medallist Penny Smith is shooting with Perazzi.

Olympia 2024: Yusuf Dikeç, probably the "coolest" shooter on the internet. He is also known as the "Turkish Dad". He won silver in the mixed air pistol and he does it on social media:

The fashion contrast to the stylish Korean Kim Yeji is obvious: she wears futuristic-looking shooting glasses in non-shooting circles and cuddles her stuffed mascot during shooting breaks. The contrast with Yusuf Dikeç, who is wearing a T-shirt and glasses, was particularly noticeable to the general media and some internet posters.
Olympia 2024 with a difference: the ISSF shared a manga-like graphic of the two fashionable opposites and called for a vote, "Main Character" Kim Yeji against "Turkish Dad"...
Eurosport was one of the first media outlets to notice the classic look of the Turkish air pistol shooter, with the name alluding to "Bond, James Bond".

The unexpected often happens: Yusuf Dikeç has been known to many shooting sports fans for years. He was twice ISSF World Champion with the centrefire and standard pistol and has also won a World Cup with the air pistol. He has now won silver in the mixed team 10m air pistol competition with team-mate Servan Tarhan, and his picture has gone around the world. And he is already appearing on the internet as the "Turkish Dad" and perhaps the coolest shooter at the Olympics, as the fashionable antithesis to Korean Kim Yeji (31), who competed in the air pistol match (where she won silver) with what looked like futuristic shooting glasses, rings on her hands and a soft toy at her side, which she cuddled during the shooting breaks. The Korean athlete was also featured in the lifestyle magazine GQ.

In fact, many items of equipment that are taken for granted by shooting sports insiders (the fashion world calls them "accessories") also appear in other settings in Hollywood. For example, Jean Reno wore shooting glasses as "Leon: The Professional" and shot around with a Hämmerli sports pistol. The future film "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger also featured shooting glasses (only real ones with a left eye shield). Yusuf Dikeç, on the other hand, is now probably making a career as an internet meme precisely because of his atypical clothing with a T-shirt (with the official country name Türkiye , after all ) and his glasses. He himself will not be able to find anything to add to his unexpected fame, at least on Instagram. The Turkish head of state Erdogan had access to Instagram blocked this morning , apparently because of the coverage of recent events in the Middle East. Paris and the Olympics are not out of the picture either, with global politics playing an important role here too.
