Hornadyʼs greatest new product for 2012, especially for those hunters who regard the “gobbler” as their prey of election, the Heavy Magnum Turkey shotshells deliver the best for large flying game. Available only in 12-gauge, 3” caliber (“Magnum”), Hornadyʼs Heavy Magnum Turkey shotshells are sold in 10-pieces boxes and come loaded with 1½ ounces of either #4, #5 or #6 lead shot coated in the thickest nickel-plating available from the global ammunition industry today; this means that shot deformation on these Magnum turkey loads is minimized, the number of fliers is reduced and more pellets remain on target for dense patterns.
Featuring the Hornady Versatite wad, these loads don’t require shotgun modification, or specialized turkey chokes. The Versatite wad does the patterning, and usually patterns best with an Improved Cylinder or Modified choke.
The Versatite wad strips cleanly from the pellets in flight without disrupting them – this keeps the pellets together in flight for a shorter shot string that delivers more collective energy on impact. By stripping cleanly, the wad doesn’t disrupt the pellets in flight so we end up with a very uniform, tight pattern without the help of aftermarket chokes.
At 1300 feet per second, Heavy Magnum Turkey loads allow hunters to achieve lethal results out to 50 yards.
Accuracy on these ammunitions is so high that a shooter can deliver a pattern density of 70+ pellets in a 12-inch square at 40 yards and 123+ pellets at 25 yards using #5 loads.
The Hornady Heavy Magnum Turkey loads are already available on the market; manufacturer's suggested retail price tops $17.81 in the United States for a 10-shells box, for either #4, #5 and #6 loads. Actual retail price may vary from retailer to retailer, and will vary in other Countries; we however still have no news concerning the distribution of this ammunition outside of the United States yet.
