During the 2016 gun industry trade shows season, the California-based Weatherby, Inc. company introduced a new bolt-action hunting rifle specifically engineered by a team of women hunters and shooters, to meet the needs and tastes of the ever-increasing pool of women who dedicate themselves to hunting and sport shootings − mainly in the United States, although their number is also slowly on the rise in Europe.
Dubbed the Weatherby Vanguard Camilla, the new bolt-action hunting rifle was conceived by the Women of Weatherby, a team that embodies Weatherby's commitment to women hunters and shooters.
The Weatherby Vanguard Camilla has been available in the United States in three calibers − .223 Remington, .243 Winchester and .308 Winchester − ever since March. A 7mm-08 Remington caliber variant is slated to be launched in August.
While many Companies have been offering hunting and sport shooting rifles for women, lately, most of them merely resort to the "Shrink it and pink it" strategy, merely adapting pre-existing models.
The Women of Weatherby team followed a different path with the already successful Vanguard rifle line.
The satin-finished, Grade A Walnut stock of the Weatherby Vanguard Camilla rifle is made specifically to fit women: the length of pull has been shortened to 13" (33cm) overall; the grip and handguard feature a fleur-de-lys checkering pattern, as well as rosewood forend and grip caps; a shorter, slimmer forearm and grip with right side palm swell for better balance and fit; and a higher comb to properly align a shooters eye with optics.
Other features of the Weatherby Vanguard Camilla bolt-action rifle include a modified recoil pad − been given a negative angle, reduced in size, and with the toe canted away from the body to better fit.
The receiver of the Weatherby Vanguard Camilla rifle sports a matte, bead blasted, blued finish; the cold-hammer forged, 20", #1 contour barrel is blued.
Accuracy and performance-wise, the Vanguard Camilla offers nothing less than the rest of the Vanguard line of rifles. Its match quality, two-stage trigger is "creep-free" and is adjustable in weigth down to 2.5 lbs (approximately 1.13 kilograms)
Weatherby guarantees the Vanguard Camilla rifle to provide SUB-MOA accuracy (.99” or less 3-shot group at 100 yards) when used with Weatherby factory or premium ammunition.
The Weatherby Vanguard Camilla bolt-action hunting rifle is being sold in the United States at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $849.00 − that's approximately 750,80€ at the current official exchange rate.
A limited promotion for the Weatherby Vanguard Camilla rifle will also allow the first 100 shooters who will submit a proof of purchase with the proper entry form between May 2 and December 31, 2016 to receive a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40mm scope − scope rings and mounts not included; the promotion is valid for consumers only (dealers, distributors and mass merchants excluded).
