Springfield Armory 2020 Boundary, a refined hunting rifle with carbon fiber stock

Boundary is the latest iteration of the 2020 rifle series that Springfield Armory has designed for hunters who focus on the lightness of their gun. It is an updated version belonging to the 2020 Series that was first presented to the public in the year 2020. The new 2020 family of bolt-action rifles was inaugurated with the Waypoint model, which from the outset was distinguished by some very interesting features, including a choice of two carbon fiber stock configurations, two camouflage finishes and carbon fiber wrapped or stainless steel barrels. All this with a guaranteed accuracy of 0.75 MOA and above all a competitive price in relation to the features.

The 2020 Boundary bolt-action rifle family features a refined carbon fiber stock with an action on aluminum pillars that makes bedding unnecessary. The Boundary rifle keeps a rather traditional line with modern technical features and high-level assembly. Built on the custom-grade Model 2020 action, the heart of the rifle is the two-lug fluted bolt that slides smoothly on EDM guides. The bolt, finished with a Cerakote treatment, is operated by a 90-degree throw charging handle equipped with an interchangeable knob.

The Boundary rifle is available both as a long and short action and is therefore capable of firing the following cartridges: 6.5 Creedmor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC, 7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 PRC and .308 Winchester. The Springfield Boundary uses a Field trigger group from Canadian specialist TriggerTech, which features a low-profile safety with a particularly smooth action thanks to the Frictionless Release Technology for a zero-creep break. The pull weight is adjustable from 2.5 to 5 pounds (1,100 to 2,200 grams) with a patented system that ensures a clean action and consistent pull. The lock time, i.e. the time interval from trigger break to primer strike, is critical for accuracy. The Model 2020 Boundary boasts a lightning fast lock time of 1.9 milliseconds, outperforming competitors by up to 45%. The short lock time results in little or no deviation from your aim. In front of the trigger is a hinged aluminum floor plate that protects the internal three-round magazine.

The 2020 Boundary rifle leaves the factory without mechanical sights, but is equipped with a Picatinny rail that allows the mounting of conventional or electronic optics.

Fluted or carbon fiber wrapped barrel

The barrel of the Springfield Boundary is made of 416 stainless steel, is 24 inches (61 cm) long and comes in two versions: fluted or jacketed in a roll-wrapped carbon fiber sleeve. In the latter version, 95 percent of the carbon fiber sleeve doesn’t contact the barrel, so it could be called a semi-fluted system. Both barrels culminate in a radial muzzle brake that significantly reduces recoil.

The carbon fiber stock is a Sportsman model manufactured by the American specialist AG Composites and equipped with a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. The sling attachments are of the QD (quick release) type. The finish of the stock, dubbed "Rogue Camo", is all grey tones. With a list price of $2,599, which corresponds to approximately 2,400 euros (excluding local taxes), the Springfield Boundary is not exactly an entry-level rifle but still offers niceties such as a carbon fiber stock and carbon wrapped barrel at an affordable price. The choice of calibers is relatively limited but includes the most interesting ones of the moment, in addition to the evergreen .308 Winchester.
