Offering performance and precision in an affordable package, the Axis rifle series has been a staple in Savage's product portfolio for quite some time now and has been offered in various configurations throughout the years. The “next evolution of an iconic Savage rifle” has just been dropped, with five “new Axis” models featuring a re-designed stock with improved ergonomics for a comfortable fit and increased rigidity for maximum durability, plus a sleek, longer and updated bolt handle that sits further away from the stock making it easier to operate and allowing for more scope clearance.
Moreover, the latest Axis rifles are offered in a wide variety of stock colors, with both full-size and compact stock sizes, in optics packages, and even in left-hand versions – which is not so common for mass-produces rifles. The list of calibers is also very long, and includes all the most popular hunting chamberings.
Savage new Axis series rifles: five models
Here are the models available for the time being: Axis 2, Axis 2 Pro, Axis 2 XP, Axis 2 Hardwood and Axis XP. Before delving in more detail, it must be pointed out that all models have in common the already mentioned redesigned ergonomic stock with enhanced texturing and updated pistol grip with ambidextrous palm swells. All Axis rifles aòsp come with user-adjustable AccuTrigger, and thread-in headspacing. and detachable box magazine.
The Savage Axis 2 is available with FDE, Gray, OD Green stock options, and is priced at $489; two multi-slot bases on top of the receiver to make it easier for you to mount optics. The Axis 2 Pro showcases the Savage stock camo patterns, Woodland and Western, along with a Gun Metal Bronze Cerakote coated action. The rifle’s action is also topped with a picatinny rail for optic mounting. Muzzle is threaded, and the price tag is $599.
Ready to offer better out-of-the-box performance, the Axis 2 XP model comes with a 3-9x40mm factory mounted and boresighted scope. It is offered with OD Green, Gray or FDE stocks and the price is $549.
The Axis 2 XP Hardwood also comes factory with a mounted and bore-sighted 3-9x40mm scope, but sports a more classic look – the hardwood stock has laser cut stippling on the pistol grip and forend for added grip. It's also the most expensive of the Axis lineup, at $689.
By contrast, the base model Axis XP is the least expensive ($479) and is only available with a black stock, but offers all the features of the other models, including the factory mounted and boresighted 3-9x40 scope.
