When Česká Zbrojovka introduced the 600 bolt-action rifle series back in 2021 it caused quite a sensation. Offered in no less than five different versions, the 600 family also includes the Alpha model. The CZ 600 Alpha rifle is now available also in .243 Win. and .270 Win. calibers. With the addition of these two further chamberings to the nine already offered ranging from .223 Rem. to .300 Win.Mag., the CZ 600 Alpha confirms to be a versatile hunting tool that can also be used satisfactorily on the shooting range.
In the 600 series, the Alpha is actually intended as an all-weather rifle, specially designed for trouble-free maintenance and everyday use. Features in fact include a symmetrical fiberglass-reinforced polymer stock with soft-grip polymer inserts on the pistol grip and forend for better comfort and control when shooting, an aluminum action frame with integral Weaver mounting profiles for easy optics mounting, and a "semi-heavy" contour barrel available infour lengths (457 mm, 508 mm, 559 mm and 610 mm, depending on the caliber) with M15x1 muzzle thread. Accuracy is always guaranteed sub-MOA at 100 m.
CZ 600 series, five models with caliber/barrel interchangeability
Besides the Alpha, the 600 series is composed of other four model named respectively Ergo, Lux, Range and Trail, all with different stock types (wood, synthetic or chassis), and specific features for their intended use. What all the CZ 600 Mauser-type bolt-action rifles have in common, however, is the caliber/barrel interchangeability within a caliber group with the same case base diameter. To change the barrel, you just had to unscrew three fixing screws in the action frame front, and the manufacturer ensures a repeatable accurate point of impact with no need for re-zeroing. Originally, CZ 600 rifles were designed to allow the users to replace the barrels themselves, but if the barrel is improperly installed it is possible that the rifle could still be fired and potentially result in a failure. That's why CZ decided to permanently install the barrels in CZ 600 rifles to minimize the risk of improper assembly, and barrel replacement and caliber conversions are now available only through authorized service centers. The action frame comes in the three sizes (Mini, Medium and Long) and is made of aluminum or steel, depending on the model. In any case, CZ guarantees a minimum service life of 20,000 rounds in continuous use. The patented bolt has a short extractor and locks in a barrel extension. Bolt throw is 60 degrees.
