For enthusiasts the time approaches for wild boar hunting season. In the company of Gianluca Garolini, let's check on the shooting line the performance of one of the 2020 novelties that Baschieri & Pellagri dedicates to hunters; the Hyper Shock slug cartridge with a new 35 g slug designed for maximum stopping power, i.e. a lethal and safe shock even on large wild boars. This choice not only meets the requirements of European and US wild boar and large ungulate hunters, but also the needs of those who happen to encounter increasingly large wild boars having little in common with the boars of a few decades ago – that rarely exceeded 70 kg.
A larger size also means greater safety and aggressiveness of the wild boar against dogs, since it is now accustomed to defending against another widespread super predator such as the wolf. Facing wild boars with these characteristics, especially for dog handlers, requires a reliable and lethal cartridge that does not jeopardize the safety of dogs with possible injuries. That's why Baschieri & Pellagri has created its new Hyper Shock.

The new cartridge with 70 mm Gordon hull couples a new fin-stabilized slug with a considerable weight of 35 grams, to a particular design and a considerable thickness, especially at the tip, in order to ensure the slug's full impact power, little deformation and lethal penetration. It's a cartridge that can be appreciated by hunters especially at the start of the season when vegetation is still thick: here, its velocity of 475 m/s and its power can maintain its path with considerable effectiveness even on large wild game. The outer finish with black anti-friction paint contributes to accuracy keeping the barrel clean without lead fouling.
The test on the shooting line was very good: at a 25 m range – typical of hunting shooting – we fired a 4-shot quick string. Changing the shooter the results remained consistent and the slug hits overlapped with indisputable accuracy. Despite its power, the cartridge also proved to be soft on the shoulder – a not irrelevant detail when firing follow-up shots during a hunting action. This allows in fact for better accuracy, since without excessive muzzle climb the gun remains stable on the target. Using a semi-automatic 12 ga shotgun with a 67 cm barrel and 4-star choke, we also wanted to point out how the Hyper Shock cartridges can guarantee their performance without causing concern or danger even with outdated but proofed guns in good condition.
